TrueTale Spring Contest – Official Rules and Conditions

The Spring Contest is now open for submissions! Please read and agree to the following rules and conditions before participating:

1. General Guidelines

  • All submitted works must be authentic and original. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited.
  • The contest is open to unpublished novel only. TrueTale is designed to discover new voices and fresh literary talent. The contest provides a platform for emerging authors to showcase their work in an unbiased and industry-standard evaluation process.
  • Manuscripts must contain less than 250,000 words.
  • Manuscripts are accepted from every country in the world, provided they comply with local copyright and intellectual property regulations.
  • Participants may submit multiple entries and are allowed to resubmit the same manuscript if they wish to receive an updated evaluation.
  • Authors can include their bio, website, and social media links during submission. This information will appear alongside the submission, allowing potential readers or interested parties to contact them via the TrueTale website.

2. Submission Process

  • All manuscripts are securely stored and will be read exclusively by AI systems. No human will have access to the submitted texts.
  • Under no circumstances will submitted content be made publicly available online or on TrueTale’s platform, except for winning manuscripts as outlined in the Winning Conditions below.
  • By submitting, participants confirm that their manuscript complies with all local privacy laws (e.g., GDPR) and copyright regulations.
  • The evaluation process is fully automated, ensuring no human intervention or bias. Each submission receives an AI-generated review within minutes, and results remain highly consistent, with score variations typically within a 1% margin for the same manuscript.

3. Winning Conditions

  • Winning manuscripts will:
    • Be digitally published by TrueTale’s imprint with a 50/50 revenue split.
    • Receive representation for submission to literary agents and publishers, under industry-standard agreements.
    • Be promoted via TrueTale’s channels.
  • At least the first three chapters or the first 30 pages of the winning manuscript will be published on TrueTale’s website before the book is officially released.
  • If multiple manuscripts receive the same winning score, all winners will receive the full prize.
  • The prize money will be awarded to the person whose credit card was used to pay the submission fee. If this person is not the actual author, they may transfer the prize to the author.

4. Offensive and Duplicate Submissions

  • Submissions containing offensive, abusive, discriminatory, racist, or sexist content will be immediately disqualified, and any associated submission fee will not be refunded.
  • Decisions regarding offensive content will be primarily handled by AI, followed by human verification if necessary.

5. Automatic Participation in Genre Charts

  • All submissions will automatically be entered into genre-specific charts, helping to highlight standout works in various categories.

6. Security and Privacy

  • All manuscripts are securely stored and managed by AI.
  • Manuscripts will not be distributed, shared, or made available to third parties, unless the manuscript wins and the author consents to publication.
  • By submitting, authors agree to TrueTale’s data handling policies under applicable local and international regulations, including GDPR compliance.

7. Eligibility

  • Contestants must be at least 18 years old or have parental/guardian consent to participate.
  • The contest is open to both individual authors and co-authors.

8. Disqualification

  • Manuscripts found to be plagiarized, submitted in violation of local copyright laws, or containing content violating these rules will be disqualified.
  • AI-based disqualification decisions are final and cannot be appealed.

9. Copyright and Intellectual Property

  • Authors retain full copyright ownership of their manuscripts throughout the contest.
  • Winning authors grant TrueTale the right to publish the manuscript under exclusive digital imprint agreements with a (better than average) 50% royalty split.
  • TrueTale will represent winning manuscripts to literary agents and publishers, ensuring agreements are aligned with industry standards.
  • If a manuscript wins, TrueTale is granted the right to use excerpts (up to three chapters or 30 pages) for promotional purposes.

10. Submission Fees

  • The submission fee is $9 is non-refundable.
  • If a manuscript exceeds 250,000 words, the submission may not be processed, and the fee will not be refunded.
  • If an author identifies significant errors in their AI-generated review, they may contact support to request a new evaluation.

11. Timeline

  • The contest is open for submissions throughout the spring season and will close on June 20, 2025.
  • Winners will be announced within 30 days after the contest ends.

12. Agreement to Terms

  • By submitting a manuscript, participants agree to all the above rules and conditions.
  • Any disputes or issues will be resolved according to TrueTale’s policies and the laws governing the participant’s country.
